I’m pleased to announce that today Drozd 0.1 was released.
Drozd is an Intellij IDEA plugin for monitoring Java environments. It automatically discovers and monitors all Java Virtual Machines 1.6+ that are currently running on java environment that you would like to monitor. All you have to do is to configure SSH access with write permission to java environment with JDK 1.6+ installed and choose one system property for each JVM that Drozd can use to identify that JVM during monitoring.

Java developers for small and medium projects as well as DevOps guys could take a look at the plugin as a complementary tool (and in perspective as a replacement) for products like Hyperic, Nagios, Appdynamics, New Relic, JavaMelody, MoSKito, Geneos, Zabbix or Splunk.
Drozd is java developer centric tool in opposition to numerous “business-oriented" or “customer-oriented" frustrating products. As it’s an Intellij IDEA plugin java developer don’t have to acquire new habits in order to use the tool: Drozd is seamlessly integrated into IDE ecosystem and extensively uses Intellij IDEA features like Event Log, notifications, speed search and autocompletion.
Drozd 0.1 has a few yet powerful features onboard:
  • Configuration of SSH access to the target environment
  • Auto-discovery for JVMs 1.6+ running on the target environment
  • Viewing of JVM system properties
  • Configuration of JVM system property for matching during monitoring
  • Monitoring of target environments
  • Monitoring period and timeout configuration per environment
  • Setting custom names for environments and JVMs
  • Enabling/disabling monitoring for environment
  • Advanced configuration for environment
The roadmap of Drozd is far reaching and will be published later, however it hardly depends on users feedback.
Please feel free to share your impressions, your feedback is very important for me now.
Sincerely yours,
Vladimir Krasilschik at Kupchino Labs, St.Petersburg, Russia.
